Not every day feels like forward momentum. Some days the inbox is empty and the silence feels like rejection. Some days the project that was exciting last week feels pointless this week. Some days you look at what you've built and wonder whether it adds up to anything at all.

These days are not evidence that you were wrong to start. They are evidence that you are in the middle of something real. Easy things don't have middle sections like this. Only the things that actually matter have this particular quality of difficulty.

On these days, the goal is not to feel motivated. Motivation is unreliable and you cannot manufacture it when it's gone. The goal is simply to keep the thread โ€” to do something, however small, that maintains your connection to the thing you're building.

Write one sentence. Make one call. Read something that reminds you why this matters. Look at how far you've come rather than how far you have to go. Do the smallest possible thing that counts as showing up.

Because the days when nothing works are not wasted days if you refuse to quit. They are the days that build the part of you that won't quit. And that part of you โ€” the one that showed up even when it didn't feel worth it โ€” is the most valuable thing you are building. More valuable than the business, or the project, or whatever the thing is. The you that keeps going through the hard days is who you are becoming.

That's worth a lot. Even when it doesn't feel like it.
